Local councils are responsible for health and social care, caring for the elderly, vulnerable and disabled.

Their services help people to live healthily, safely and as independently as possible, supporting people to stay in their own home wherever possible.

A range of support is available from advice and assessments; equipment, adaptations and assistive technology to help people maintain their independence; help returning home after hospital admission to support with sheltered housing and care homes.

For children and young people, councils offer support with safeguarding, fostering and adoption, and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
