Public health teams work to prevent disease by improving the health of their local population and reducing health inequalities.

They provide advice, information and services to the public and also to health and social care staff. Public health teams work with their colleagues across the council and with partners in the NHS and public sector, voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations (VCSE), and the private sector.

Services include:

  • contraception and sexual health
  • drugs and alcohol support
  • emotional wellbeing support
  • health protection (including incident management) eg coronavirus
  • stop smoking support
