Shirley Pointer

SHIRLEY Pointer has been appointed as the Chair of the Remuneration Committee for the NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board, when it takes on statutory responsibilities on 1 July 2022.

Ms Pointer, is currently a Non-Executive Member for Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the BPHA, a housing association located in the Oxford to Cambridge arc, which develops energy efficient, sustainable, and affordable housing.

A resident of Milton Keynes, Shirley began her career in Human Resources for Abbey, before joining the civil service, where she held senior positions looking after the workforce in several government departments including the Department of Health, Department for Local Communities and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Speaking about her appointment Ms Pointer said:

“As someone who lives locally, I am excited to be joining the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board at its inception. I have spent my career working with people as my focus and to bring that to the NHS at a time of change is a great opportunity.

“I look forward to working with Rima and the team as we work to improve health and care in our area.”

Confirming the appointment, Dr Rima Makarem, Chair Designate for Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board said:

“I delighted to welcome Shirley to the Integrated Care Board. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience, having spent all her career working with the workforce for a number of large organisations and more recently in the civil service, which will be hugely beneficial.

Her knowledge of working as a non-executive director for a housing association and as a Milton Keynes resident will also ensure that we keep a laser like focus on the work we can do to improve health and wellbeing in our area. She will be an asset to our team.”

The establishment of the Integrated Care Board has been delayed following the recent Omicron wave of the Covid pandemic but will form as a legal organisation on 1 July 2022.
