Patients’ views sought on exciting proposal for a new purpose-built Primary Care facility in Bedford

Patients registered with The De Parys Group have been asked to give their views on plans to relocate four of The De Parys Group surgeries to a new purpose-built Primary Care Hub, in the Enhanced Services Centre on the Bedford Health Village site, Kimbolton Road.

The exciting plans, subject to business case approval, will see part of the Enhanced Services Centre renovated to provide a new modern facility for primary care services.  Relocating the surgeries will enable The De Parys Group to improve access to appointments for patients and will enable staff to work more flexibly and more closely together improving care for patients.

It is proposed the new facility will have accessible purpose-built appointment rooms that provide flexible space, providing the opportunity to develop and increase the services delivered to patients.

Relocating to the Enhanced Service Centre will bring together primary, community, mental health, and secondary care (hospital and community care) on the same site, improving the way in which services work together to enable them to provide joined up care for patients, improving health outcomes. De Parys Group patients will also benefit from easy access to a range of health services already delivered from the Bedford Health Village site.

Nicky Poulain, Director of Primary Care, Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes CCG commented; ‘The development of a Primary Care Hub in the North of Bedford is an important part of the strategic development of primary care estates across Bedford. The creation of the Primary Care Hub provides the opportunity for the integration of services improving care and convenience for patients and is key to ensuring patients have improved access to high quality primary care services for years to come.’

Dr Asma Ali, The De Parys Group said; ‘As we continue to develop the services we deliver to our patients, a purpose-built facility will enable us to provide increased access to appointments, with our growing team of clinicians, patients will have access to appointments with GP’s, nurses, physiotherapists, mental health link workers, clinical pharmacists and paramedics.  Our ambition is to deliver joined up services that positively impact on the health and well-being of our patients. Through the engagement currently underway we would like to understand the views of our patients so we can ensure all areas are considered as plans are developed.’

The plans will see the relocation of De Parys Surgery, Pemberley Surgery, Goldington Road Surgery and same day access appointments at Gilbert Hitchcock House, to the Enhanced Services Centre.  Church Lane Medical Centre and the new Biddenham facility (which will replace the current branch surgery in Bromham) will continue to delivery primary care services.

To ensure the project meets the full needs of its patients, The De Parys Group and Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes CCG are undertaking a patient engagement for those registered with the practice which is open until Wednesday 20 July 2022, inviting views on the proposal and any potential impact patients feel the relocation of services may have on how they access care.
