Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar (glucose) that develops during pregnancy and usually disappears after giving birth.

However this increases your risk of developing Type 2  Diabetes and can happen at any stage of the pregnancy.

In Bedfordshire and Luton we also offer ongoing management for Post Gestational Diabetes care. This is a combination of self-referral to Diabetes Prevention education and an annual check up for women who have had Gestational Diabetes. Please speak to your GP/Practice nurse for further information.
