Health and care professionals are invited to attend a ‘Healthy Mother, Healthy Pregnancy’ event hosted by the Local Maternity & Neonatal System (LMNS) at Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board on Wednesday 8 February 2023.

Optimum health of women and their babies is the aim at the LMNS. However, services only start seeing women a quarter of the way through their pregnancies. To make the biggest impact and improvement to outcomes for women and their babies, professionals need to focus on Preconception: the period prior to becoming pregnant. The LMNS will be discussing their Preconception work at this event.

The ‘Healthy Mother, Healthy Pregnancy’event will feature a keynote speaker and other guest speakers who will discuss the need to support and educate women on the importance of optimising their health prior to becoming pregnant – particularly those with pre-existing health conditions including hypertension, high BMI, diabetes and mental health problems – to improve outcomes for both mothers and their babies.

As part of NHS England’s Core20PLUS5 approach to support the reduction of health inequalities, the Local Maternity & Neonatal System will be focusing on seldom heard groups including Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic & those from deprived backgrounds.

Topics being discussed at the event include:

  • Tackling health inequalities in Bedfordshire, Luton & Milton Keynes
  • Improving outcomes for birthing people and their babies
  • Optimising the health of birthing people prior to conception
  • Promoting use of Tommy’s Preconception Tool
  • Support from Diabetes UK
  • Screening for undiagnosed health conditions prior to becoming pregnant
  • Support to manage pre-existing health conditions and optimise health

If you are interested in developing your knowledge on Preconception education, hearing how the LMNS aims to tackle health inequalities in the local area and how you can help, please join us at the ‘Healthy Mother, Healthy Pregnancy’ event.
