Home » Statement on the closure of Wenlock Street Surgery, Luton

Today, Wednesday 19 July, we are informing patients of Wenlock Street Surgery in Luton that their practice will close on Friday 28 July, following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection and the subsequent resignation of Dr Saleh in June.

The following letter is being issued to patients today via text message and a subsequent letter will be delivered to each household next week to advise patients of the surgery they have been allocated to.

If patients have any concerns or questions, please contact blmkicb.contactus@nhs.net

Dear patient,

Important Information:  Closure of Wenlock Street Surgery on 28 July 2023

I am writing as our records show that at least one person registered at your address is a registered patient with Dr I Saleh at Wenlock Street Surgery, 40 Wenlock Street, Luton, LU2 0NN. Dr Saleh currently holds the contract to provide medical services at the practice.

On 13 June 2023, following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, Dr Saleh notified NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board (BLMK ICB) that he has taken the decision to resign his contract to deliver primary medical services with effect from 28 July 2023.

The ICB is working closely with Dr Saleh and his staff to ensure the safe transfer of patients to local practices. There are additional clinical and management staff supporting Dr Saleh and the rest of the team until the practice closure date. This may mean you see or speak to a different member of staff.

What does this mean for me as a patient?

Due to the time constraints, BLMK ICB has opted to complete a managed patient list dispersal to local GP practices within Luton. This will mean anyone living at your address who is currently registered at Wenlock Street Surgery will be allocated to a new practice.

We have worked closely with local GP practices in Luton, who have agreed to accept patients from Wenlock Street Surgery. We are currently working with practices to allocate you to a new practice, and you will receive a letter next week which will set this out.

We apologise for any inconvenience the closure of Wenlock Street Surgery may cause you.

We want to make sure that you continue to have access to a GP and continuing healthcare and that your move to a new practice goes smoothly.

If you have any questions or concerns, or if you require this information in another language or a different format, please email blmkicb.contactus@nhs.net.

Yours faithfully

Nicky Poulain

Chief Primary Care Officer

BLMK ICB
