The Mayor of Luton, Councillor Tahima Saleem and local MPs Sarah Owen and Rachel Hopkins joined up with Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board on Friday (11 October) to show local people how to use the NHS App.

The NHS App roadshow, which will travel across the region this autumn visited Biscott and Bramingham surgeries in the town and clinicians, technicians and NHS staff were on hand to show residents how to download the app and get the most from their surgery.

Nicky Poulain, Chief Primary Care Officer said: “The NHS App makes it easier to order repeat prescriptions, book flu and Covid vaccinations and in some GP surgeries, you can book an appointment with your GP. As winter approaches, we want to help people to get the help and care they need, when they need it, and the app will be central to helping us support local people better.”

The app, which can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices and allows individuals to take greater ownership over their own healthcare.

The Luton App Day was the first in a series of events which will be taking place across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes. The next event is scheduled for Friday 6 December in Bedford.

The events aim to support residents in accessing health and care services and allows them to:

  • Order repeat prescriptions
  • Manage appointments (participating surgeries. Ask your surgery for details)
  • View their GP health record
  • Book and manage Covid-19 vaccinations
  • Register for donation decision
  • Choose how the NHS uses your data
  • Use NHS 111 online for instant advice or medical help nearby

Nicky Poulain added: “Take up of the NHS App in Luton is lower than the national average with only 43% of residents signed up to use the app, compared to 60% nationally. We hope these events will help give people the confidence they need to download and use the app, so they can manage their care better”.
