Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board (BLMK ICB) has launched a new suite of informative videos designed to support patients, families and carers throughout their cancer care journey. They were coproduced with BLMK ICB Cancer Patient Forum in collaboration with the hospital trusts.

The videos offer a clear and reassuring look at what to expect during treatment at Bedford Hospital, Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Trust (MKUH) – helping to reduce anxiety and improve understanding.

The collection includes:

  • Guided tours of local cancer care facilities
  • Overviews of what to expect during scans and treatments
  • Introductions to the dedicated professionals delivering care
  • Real stories from patients who have experienced treatment.

Helen Watt, Head of Cancer Network at BLMK ICB, said:

“We know that starting cancer treatment can feel overwhelming. These videos are designed to give patients and their loved ones confidence by showing them what to expect and introducing the people who will be there to support them every step of the way.”

Sally Burnie, Divisional Chief Nurse – Cancer and Core Clinical Services (MKUH) and Jan Chalkley, Macmillan Deputy Head of Nursing Cancer & Palliative Care (Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) added:

“Our priority is to make patients feel safe and cared for. These videos help to explain the process, reduce anxiety and show that we’re here to guide and support them throughout their treatment.”

This initiative is part of BLMK ICB’s wider cancer care strategy, which aims to improve patient experience, reduce health inequalities and ensure timely access to high-quality care. By providing clear information and reassurance, the ICB hopes to empower patients and their families to make informed decisions and feel supported throughout their treatment journey.

The videos will be signposted to patients as part of their care pathway.
