Public Consultation to be launched 19 January 2026

A public consultation on the future of Mount Vernon Cancer Centre will run from 19 January to 29 March 2026. Patients, staff, stakeholders and local communities will be invited to share their views on proposals.

What’s being proposed

The main proposal is to relocate the cancer centre to a new, purpose built facility next to Watford General Hospital. The new centre would bring modern, specialist services together on one site, with access to the full range of medical and surgical care needed for high quality cancer treatment. It would continue to support patients across Hertfordshire, north west London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and east Berkshire.

The proposals also include:

  • More chemotherapy, diagnostics and follow up care in local hospitals
  • Increased chemotherapy at home
  • Reduced travel for routine appointments

A key part of the consultation is the option for a second radiotherapy unit at either:

  • Luton and Dunstable Hospital, or
  • Lister Hospital, Stevenage

This would be in addition to radiotherapy at the new main centre and would improve access for people living in the north of the current Mount Vernon catchment area.

Once the consultation has launched, we will publish a link and encourage Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes residents to share their views.
