As the Easter Bank Holiday weekend approaches, the NHS is reminding people to order their repeat prescriptions in good time to ensure they have the medication they need.

Running out of essential medication can cause serious health problems. To avoid this, it’s important that patients order their repeat prescriptions in plenty of time.

Dr Sarah Whiteman, Chief Medical Director for Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board, said: “With the Bank Holiday weekend approaching, we are reminding patients to check that they have enough medication to last them through the long weekend.

“If you need to order a repeat prescription, please do so in good time and remember that GP surgeries and pharmacies may have different opening hours over the bank holiday.

“To order your repeat prescription, simply contact your GP surgery or use your GP’s online services. You can also order your repeat prescription through your local pharmacy or by using the NHS App.

“Don’t let a lack of medication spoil your Bank Holiday weekend: order your repeat prescription in good time and enjoy the break knowing that you’re doing what you can to take care of your health.”

Patients should order their repeat prescriptions at least two working days before they run out of medication. This gives GP surgeries and pharmacies enough time to process the request and ensure that patients receive their medication on time.

Dr Sarah Whiteman added: “Bank Holidays are normally busy times for health and care services, and with strikes planned, we are expecting services to be under increased pressure throughout the following week too.

“Local people can play their part by only using 999 and A&E for life-threatening emergencies and using NHS 111 online or by phone for other urgent care needs.”
