Home » Victor’s diabetes prevention journey in Luton
Victor was referred to the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, also known as the Healthier You programme.
The Healthier You programme is a national programme that is monitored and supported locally by Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board (ICB).
It identifies people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and refers them onto a nine-month, evidence-based lifestyle change programme. It enables people to take charge of their health by giving them advice on how to eat more healthily and be more physically active.
Speaking about the programme, Victor said:
“I really enjoy cooking for myself, so it was very interesting to learn about calculating the correct portion sizes. By eating smaller portions and more regular meals instead of one big late evening meal, I was able to lose 26.5 pounds in just 3 months. I now eat less unhealthy fats and more vegetables.
“The support groups were great. It was a place for all of us to share new ideas and viewpoints to figure out what works best for us individually.
“The programme has changed my life. It has improved my health and I feel better for it, there’s now less pressure on my back and I experience less pain. I feel proud of myself and will definitely be carrying on with the programme for life.”
If you’re like Victor and need support to change your lifestyle for the better, please book an appointment with your GP.
