‘Catch-up’ flu clinics for children aged 2 to 15 are set to take place in Luton this weekend (Saturday 28 January) and during the February half-term break.

The NHS continues to see a high number of serious flu cases among young children. Across England, hospitalisations in young children are over 44% higher than the last pre-pandemic year (2019/20).

The flu vaccine can protect children and other family members from getting seriously ill and even ending up in hospital, and the NHS is reminding people that the vaccine is still available if your child has not yet had a flu vaccine this school year.

For most children, the flu vaccine is a quick and painless spray up the nose. If the nasal spray vaccine is not suitable for your child, the NHS can offer a flu vaccine injection instead.

The flu vaccine is safe and effective, and it’s offered every year on the NHS to help protect people at risk of getting seriously ill from flu.

The flu clinics for children aged 2 to 15 will take place at Luton Wellbeing Hub, 42-44 The Mall, Luton LU1 2TA on:

  • Saturday 28 January 2023: 9am to 4pm
  • Monday 13 February 2023: 9am to 4pm

If your child has not yet had a flu vaccine this school year and you can’t make it to a flu clinic, you can also:

  • Ask your GP surgery: You can make an appointment through your surgery.
  • Check whether your local pharmacy is offering vaccinations: You can check whether your local pharmacy is offering flu vaccinations at www.nhs.uk/book-a-flu-vaccination.
