Sarah Stanley has been appointed as the Chief Nursing Director for the new NHS Bedfordshire, Luton, and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board, when it takes on statutory responsibilities on 1 July 2022.

Sarah trained as a nurse in 1992 at the Royal Free in London and has spent time working at Newham General Hospital, Royal Free London and nursing in Australia. She has worked as an Interim Director of Nursing and a Director of Improvement. She is currently a Divisional Medical Director for Medicine and Urgent Care at the Royal Free in London and spends half of her time working clinically as a Consultant Nurse in critical care and resuscitation.

Sarah is a trained improvement advisor and has also spent time working with Google Health designing healthcare applications to identify patients who are at risk of clinical deterioration.

Speaking about her appointment Sarah said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be starting as the Chief Nursing Director for the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board. Working in partnership with colleagues across the system gives us a great opportunity to improve health and care for everyone.

“In the last two years, I have worked closely with the Integrated Care System in North London, which has given me a greater understanding of the healthcare challenges we face and the importance of helping people to start well, live well and die well.

“I cannot wait to meet everyone and listen to what really matters to residents and staff to help to shape the ideas and improvements in the area.”

Confirming the appointment, Felicity Cox, Chief Executive Designate for Bedfordshire, Luton, and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board said:

“The Chief Nursing Director is a crucial role in the Integrated Care Board, and I am delighted to welcome Sarah to the team.

“We face real challenge in the next decade – designing the healthcare for our population and tackling health inequalities. There is an opportunity for us to think differently about how we deliver health and care, and so Sarah’s experience, gained in London, overseas and in working with institutions focused on delivering health improvements will help us to think differently about the care we deliver for local people.

“This is an exciting time for us and it’s great to have Sarah onboard”

Following Royal Assent of the Health and Care Act, 2022 in April this year, the Integrated Care Board will be established as a legal entity on 1 July 2022.
