Over-50s in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes have been reminded that it’s not too late to get a flu vaccination as the number of cases continues to rise across England.
Most people in this age group will already have received an invitation from their family doctor’s surgery, but may not yet have taken up the vaccination. The offer remains open for anyone who is eligible for any reason, including age, a long-term health condition or pregnancy.
Dr Sarah Whiteman, Chief Medical Director at Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board, said:
“This year there’s a double threat of widely circulating flu and COVID-19, so it’s crucial that you take up the free flu vaccine as soon as possible if you are offered it. It will help protect you from severe flu this winter, and may even save your life.
“All those over 50 are now eligible for the jab, many of whom will have low natural immunity due to COVID-19 restrictions over the last two years.
“Having a flu jab is the best way to protect yourself and those closest to you, and there’s still time for eligible people to get their free NHS flu vaccination: just speak to your pharmacist or your family doctor’s surgery for information.”
