NHS workers from the local Integrated Care Board have spent the weekend in the community as they got stuck into two big local events in Luton and Milton Keynes.

Chief executive Felicity Cox led a team of staff running in the Love Luton RunFest on Sunday (15 October), whilst others today (16 October) delivered a consignment of groceries to Campbell Park for MK Can, Milton Keynes Foodbank’s attempt to break the world record for the longest line of tinned food.

Felicity Cox, chief executive of Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board, said:

“It was fantastic to be out with lots of Lutonians supporting a great cause. It was a challenge for me but I had a terrific pacemaker in Geoff who ran the 5km complete with his walking stick. We were both delighted to finish under 40 minutes!

“The NHS is there at some of the most important parts of our families’ lives, but I’m determined that people who live in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes should also see NHS staff out and about, taking part in the life of the communities we serve.

“Our commitment to working with people and communities isn’t just a policy which we’ve printed on a piece of paper.  It’s central to the way we work.  We want to gain insights into local people’s views and values, and the best way we can do that is to be there in the community for all sorts of events.

“Joining in with community events is also about being a good corporate citizen.  We are always keen to support projects which support health and wellbeing, so we can achieve our stated aim of being an organisation which helps people to live healthier lives.”
