Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care System is marking Stress Awareness Month by encouraging people to prioritise their mental wellbeing and seek support to help manage stress and anxiety.

Stress Awareness Month, held every April, provides an opportunity to start conversations around stress and emotional health, especially as pressures from daily life, work, finances, and family responsibilities continue to impact many people across our communities.

Stress can lead to poor health, increased blood pressure and dietary problems. As a result, residents are encouraged to take simple steps to protect their mental health – such as taking breaks, staying active, connecting with loved ones, and practicing mindfulness or relaxation techniques. Engaging in activities like joining a walking group, practicing mindfulness, or simply spending time in nature, can help reduce stress and improve wellbeing.

Dr Andrew Rochford, chief medical officer at Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board, said:

“Stress is something we all experience, but when it becomes overwhelming or prolonged, it can affect our physical health, relationships, and quality of life. This week is a reminder that it’s okay to ask for help. Whether it’s talking to your GP, using digital tools, or connecting with a friend – support is out there. No one needs to struggle in silence.”

How can I get help?
