Felix, from Luton, joined the NHS Low Calorie Diet Programme following a referral from his GP due to his type 2 diabetes. He believed that this was his last chance of losing weight and an opportunity to start a new healthy lifestyle.

The NHS Low Calorie Diet programme is for people who are overweight and living with type 2 diabetes. In the 12 month programme, participants will be supported by their own Diabetes Specialist Dietitian and Health Coach to lose weight using a low calorie diet, improve their blood glucose levels, reduce their medications, and potentially put their type 2 diabetes into remission.

Over the 12 month programme, Felix’s Dietitian supported him during each stage of the programme and helped him to better understand his relationship with food and exercise.

Felix was able to bring his BMI back into the normal range and lose over 33kg, which meant he was able to stop using medication to treat his type 2 diabetes.

“It was a fantastic programme and the lessons I have learnt have been invaluable. The programme has allowed me to be able to recently run the Luton half marathon, this is something I never thought I would be able to do”.
