MK Council has submitted bids for government funding which could see a brand new space for MK:U students in the city centre, and transport improvements.

The multi-million pound bids have been made as part of the Government’s Levelling Up Fund designed to invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life in towns and cities across the UK.

MK Council is looking to acquire and fit-out office space in Central Milton Keynes to expand the range of degree apprenticeships and provide undergraduate courses at MK:U, the new university being developed in the city centre, creating a dedicated space to learn about new and emerging technologies.

The second part of the bid focuses on improving connectivity and public transport, including upgrades to Monkston and Brinklow Roundabouts on the V11 (Tongwell Street).

“These projects give us the opportunity to make a genuine difference for local people. Both bids are ambitious and will bring significant benefits to our local economy. My thanks go out to council colleagues and partners for the work they’ve put in and I look forward to working with everyone involved to deliver these exciting projects.”- Leader of MK Council, Cllr Pete Marland

“Cranfield University is proud to be MK Council’s higher education partner delivering MK:U’s distinctive education and innovation in central Milton Keynes. We are committed to building on MK:U’s early success and have been working with the Council on its bid to the Levelling Up Fund for an Education Hub. We look forward to hearing the outcome later in the year.”- Pro Vice-Chancellor, Cranfield University and Chief Executive, MK:U, Professor Lynette Ryals OBE
