Demonstrating a strong sense of community solidarity, women from Bedford’s Caribbean community gathered at Fujifilm in Bedford this week to mark International Women’s Day. The event focused on raising awareness about breast cancer and underscored the life-saving importance of regular screenings.
Organised in collaboration with Speak & Do, a female led organisation that is working with Legacy of Windrush Descendants (LOWD), the event aimed to boost awareness and participation in breast screening among women in the Caribbean community, addressing disparities and encouraging proactive healthcare.

Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in BLMK, impacting 897 women last year. Early detection is critical, as breast screening plays a vital role in saving lives.
Attendees were enlightened on the importance of regular breast screening and early detection of breast cancer. The collaboration between LOWD and Fujifilm underscored the pressing need for culturally sensitive healthcare outreach, ensuring that vital health services are accessible to all segments of the community.

“It was encouraging to see women from the Caribbean community attend Fujifilm on Saturday to learn more about recognising the signs of breast cancer and the importance of taking action if they have concerns. Initiatives like these are instrumental in raising awareness and ensuring more lives are saved through regular screening.”

Amanda Leitch, breast care lead for Fujifilm, said:
